Cada año, la selección que conduce a los Emmy (los premios que consagran lo mejor de la televisión estadounidense y británica) ofrece una fotografía que revela la buena salud (o no) de ese gran fragmento de la pequeña pantalla. También de sus intereses creativos y de la agenda temática que enarbolan sus historias e intereses.
Tras el caótico 2020, la fotografía de la presente edición (la número 73), favorece –quién lo dudaría-, a las plataformas establecidas. También, en su mayoría, a series que han alcanzado su madurez y en algunos casos, se acercan a su final de ciclo: The Crown, The Kominsky Method, Pose, This Is Us, The Handmad´s Tale y The Mandalorian (una rama de un árbol que lleva casi cuatro décadas creciendo).
El fantástico y la ciencia ficción han puesto un pie en la sala y no parece que esta tendencia retroceda en los próximos años. Quizás, viendo los intereses editoriales de Netflix y Amazon Prime podría incluso aumentar.
Las series y miniseries protagonizadas y que orbitan en torno al universo femenino recorren transversalmente las categorías medulares; especialmente en las seleccionadas a Mejor miniserie. Las cinco miniseries recorren relatos existenciales, históricos, violentos y dolorosos.
La testosterona también se muestra en esta fotografía. Sólo que, pese a determinadas fachadas (The Boys, The Mandalorian, Cobra Kai), los retratos masculinos afloran también una sensibilidad, una fragilidad, otro espíritu, que bien resume ese personaje gigante llamado Ted Lasso, sin duda, la creación y serie más osada de todas las seleccionadas.
